About the course

The purpose of this course is to deliver a range of photographic techniques and processes, this includes digital and studio-based photography. You will expand your photographic knowledge in the use of equipment, techniques, development of ideas and studio lighting. The work you complete will be against a creative brief and will comprise of set tasks each week. This will enable you to advance your own creative ideas and practical skills during the course by producing photographs inspired by established photographers. You are encouraged to document your outcomes in a digital format which will sustain your progression. The aim of this course is to introduce you to the use of digital photography and studio-based photography.

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are required however sufficient knowledge of photography, or level 1 award in photography. Completion of the Level 2 course allows access to this level 3 course.

Assessment

The course is formally assessed throughout and there will be summative assessment at the end of the course. You will present an online portfolio, with the work produced over the course presented and exhibited. The portfolio will contain a collection of photographs and personal evaluations which all of these are formally assessed as the course progresses. Assignment work enables all learners to cover the course specifications and continuous feed back reflects on progress and achievement.

Careers & Progression

Learners completing this course progress onto the Level 3 photography course which begins in September. Learners will gain a good knowledge of how to work a camera, idea development and studio photography. These skills could therefore enhance applications to work in the industry.

Additional Details

Equipment Supplied

A photography space with several backdrops and photography strobes. As well as a darkroom for developing photographic paper and film.

Extra curricular activities

This course is not only about building your photography and digital skills but also about teamwork and many students go on together as a group to take further additional levels of courses through to the level 3. There is also the opportunity to present your photographs as an exhibition end of year.
