About the course
This introductory level is where you’ll get to develop your skills in finance administration, double-entry bookkeeping, basic costing principles and purchase, sales and general ledgers. If you have some experience in Accounting and wish to develop your skills, then this qualification will help you to take your career or own business further. The AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting is an ideal starting point if you wish to pursue a career in accountancy or finance. You will learn mainly through taught lessons with our industry expert tutors, learning in a range of styles from formal lectures and group work, to studying case studies, completing problem solving activities and directed independent study. The units covered include bookkeeping transactions and controls, elements of costing and using professional Accounting software.

There are no formal qualification requirements for this course. However, competent oral and written skills, a good level of numeracy and ICT skills is essential. If you have bankruptcy etc. please contact AAT for a formal decision before enrolling onto the course. For further advice regarding this, please speak to a course tutor.
There are four unit assessments and one synoptic assessment. All assessments in this qualification are set and marked by AAT. The synoptic assessment will test your understanding of connections between the different topics covered across the qualification. Some units will be assessed only by an end of unit assessment, while others will also be included in the synoptic assessment.
Careers & Progression
On successful completion of this course you may progress to the Level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting or onto an Advanced Level Apprenticeship. When you have completed further study, you will also have the opportunity to progress onto Higher and Degree Apprenticeships or a range of other Degree courses. Careers that this course may lead to include Account Administrator, Assistant Accountant, Purchase/Ledger Clerk.
