Our Sports Coaching programme is the perfect springboard for a range of career opportunities.  Whether you are helping elite athletes on their journey to superstardom or just getting people more active, you can do what you love to do every day and use your skills to nurture potential and change lives. You'll gain in-depth knowledge of the profession, ranging from promoting entry-level sport to coaching elite performers. We cover the principles and practices for training, performance psychology, how to use sport as a catalyst for change within communities, and how to manage projects aimed at increasing physical activity and sport participation. The course also offers the opportunities to achieve additional industry standard qualifications in sport and fitness to enhance you employability within the industy.

After studying the core principles of sports coaching in year one you then have the option to specialise your options for year 2 and year 3. You have the options to specialise in Coaching Performance Sport or Coaching Physical Education. These pathways are tailor made to help you progress into the world of coaching professional athletes or moving into coaching or teaching within education.

Cost Information

Years 1, 2 and 3 (delivered at Burnley College): The standard full time tuition fee rate for this course in 2023/24 for UK students is £9000 per year. The standard full time tuition fee for the Foundation year for this course in 2023/24 is £6000.

Entry Requirements

For this course, a typical offer will be a UCAS Tariff score of 80. A minimum of two full A Levels (or equivalent) is required. Every application is considered on an individual basis.

The balance of assessment will vary depending on the modules undertaken but will include coursework and practical exams.

Our BA (Hons) Sport Development and Coaching course will help prepare you for a range of career possibilities, such as: Sports Coach, Sport Development Manager/Officer , Sport-specific Development Officer (e.g. Football, Rugby, Netball), Community Sports Coach, School Sport Coordinator, Physical Activity Coordinator, Sport or Physical Education Teacher.
