About the course
Develop your raw talent into what you want to achieve. Work in your preferred genre of music whilst exploring topics as varied as ensemble skills, performance techniques and composition. Although practical music skills development is a core aspect of the course, you will also spend time learning to use music software in written and theoretical work often connected to researching and writing reports, or preparing and presenting information. You will learn about the music industry itself and develop skills and knowledge which will prepare you for professional life.

A minimum of two GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including English Language OR a relevant Level 1 Diploma and a GCSE grade 5 in English Language.
The course is 100% coursework and comprises of practical and written work. Depending on the nature of the unit being studied assessment could include: the creation of original music, demonstration of live performance skills, research and presentation work, the production of studio recordings, a portfolio of technical skills.
Careers & Progression
On successful completion of this course you may decide to progress onto a level 3 qualification such as the Extended Diploma in Music, an Apprenticeship and then a Higher/Degree Apprenticeship. You will also have the opportunity to progress onto a wide variety of Degree courses. Careers that this course may lead to include Musician, Composer, Sound Technician, Recording Engineer and Live Sound Engineer.
Extra curricular activities
Trips and opportunities have included students working at The Grand in Clitheroe. Burnley College also has multiple gig and performance opportunities throughout the year. The College regularly hosts guest lecturers from industry professionals and organise trips to local recording studios and venues.
