About the course
Develop your raw talent into what you want to achieve. Pre-advanced music will help you to progress comfortably onto an advanced level qualification. This qualification also acts as a perfect transition for students with minimal musical background/skills that may need time and support to develop musically in order to thrive and achieve their potential. This qualification covers a vast range of areas that are linked to music industry skills and also aligned to the requirements of the subsequent advanced level course. These areas include; exploring music, professional development, self promotion in the music industry, music performance, creating music and a music project. This project provides flexibility for you to further explore a particular area of your own musical interest. The course allows a great deal of freedom in the music you choose to perform and compose

A minimum of 2 GCSEs at grade 4 or above. GCSE Music (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential. Given the practical, musical and technical demands of this course you will be required to submit an audition/audition footage
Exploring Music, Professional Development, Self-promotion in the Music Industry, Music Performance, music Production, Music Project
There are no exams on this qualification. The course is 100% coursework and comprises of practical and written work. Depending on the nature of the unit being studied assessment could include: the creation of original music, demonstration of live performance skills, research and presentation work, the production of studio recordings, a portfolio of technical skills. The Music Project module is an internal synoptic assessment, this is aimed at testing your' ability to respond to a 'real-life' situation
Careers & Progression
This qualification will provide an appropriate skill-set and help prepare students to progress to any of the Level 3 Music courses offered at Burnley College. Alternatively there are a number of modules developing skills that would support a student to side-step onto an alternative Level 3 course. These could include performing arts, business, computing and media.
You will have access to an Apple Mac suite running the latest industry-standard music software alongside a multi-function recording studio and range of practice rooms.
Extra curricular activities
Music students are supported in their own creative projects and ventures - many music students book additional recording studio time to or have extra-access to software and the resources to write, rehearse and produce their own music with the support of our skilled music technicians. Many students are involved in regular public performances throughout the year. There are industry-related trips throughout the year and regular guest speakers and master classes.
