About the course
The Extended Diploma in Fashion and Clothing explores a wide range of fashion orientated subjects enabling you to understand the workings of the Fashion and Clothing Industry. The course includes garment construction techniques and finishes, pattern construction and adaptation, textile development, illustration and visual presentation, creative design development including CAD, fashion styling which includes learning photographic techniques and processes. Assessment is conducted through visual and written representation within sketchbook work and also via a technical file which will increase your understanding of technical skills found within Fashion and Clothing. Your knowledge will develop over the two years of the study programme and will enable you to feel confident designing and making garments in preparation for the next level.

Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects including English Language and either Textiles or Art OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a Merit grade PLUS a portfolio of work presented at interview.
Assessment
On this course you will be assessed continually, working through specialist, professional and mandatory units relating to Fashion and Clothing. Your assessment also includes a presentation of your work celebrating your creative achievements with an end of year fashion show each year of the study programme. The skills acquired within your successful assessments will build your understanding and knowledge to be able to achieve your full potential whilst studying at Burnley College.
Careers & Progression
Given the wide range of learning throughout the course you will have the opportunity to apply for all fashion related higher education courses. These include Garment Technology, Fashion Design, Fashion Buying, Fashion Marketing and Promotion, Stylist, Illustrator, Visual Merchandising, Fashion Journalism, Textile Design and many other fashion associated career choices. You can also use your experience to progress onto an apprenticeship or to plan your own business endeavour.

Extra curricular activities
There are plenty of activities and visits to take part in that will help you achieve your ambitions. Past visits have included: Art galleries visits to London, Liverpool, Manchester, The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Harrogate Knit and Stitch and visiting local Historical sites.
