About the course
The Level 2 Business Programme at Burnley College consists of two qualifications that become a full Level 2 qualification upon completion. You will begin the Level 2 programme working towards the Level 2 Tech Award in Enterprise which consists of three components; C1 - Exploring Enterprises - Assessed through coursework, you will examine different local enterprises to develop their knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of enterprises and the skills needed by entrepreneurs C2 - Planning for and Pitching an Enterprise Activity - Assessed through coursework, you will plan and pitch your own small business to an audience, Dragon's Den style. You will develop key skills in this component, including presentation and employability skills. C3 - Promotion and Finance for Enterprise - Assessed through an examination, you will use key knowledge gained through the course to help a business make key decisions in terms of their finances and marketing activities. In semester two, we will progress to study the Technical Certificate in Marketing. You will be assessed through a variety of coursework based activities and an external examination. The Technical Certificate is made up of four components, including; C1 - Marketing in Business (exam) - You will gain knowledge and understanding of marketing tools and techniques, and the importance of the use of digital and offline marketing activities to the success of a business. C2 - Research the Marketing of a Product or Service (coursework) - this is where you develop your understanding of how marketing tools and techniques are used, the skills needed to research the marketing of a product or service and analyse and present marketing data. C3 - Create Digital Marketing Communications (coursework) - you will develop the skills needed to develop and create digital marketing communications for a selected product or service C4 - Plan and Present a Marketing Campaign (coursework) - you will develop the skills needed to be able to use market research to develop and present a marketing campaign for a product or service appropriate to a specific target market This course is an excellent way to develop your business knowledge and skills to assist you in progressing to a higher level of study or apprenticeship. Work experience is a key aspect of this course, further developing your CV and skills to make a you a successful business person and to achieve your full potential.

A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 5 or above preferably with a grade 5 in English Language OR a relevant Level 1 Diploma. If you achieve a Grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will be required to resit these while studying on the Level 2 programme.
The assessment process on the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Marketing creates a variety of opportunities to demonstrate your knowledge. Two of the units of study are examined by Pearson. Our expert tutors will ensure that you are ready for the examinations through focusing on exam technique by looking at past papers in detail. Other units are comprised of written assessments which include; reports, presentations and evaluative pieces. Role play activities are also incorporated into the programme, allowing you to demonstrate your newly acquired skills. The set assignments are a natural continuation of classwork and our expert tutors will provide you with support to ensure you are given the opportunity to reach your full potential.
Careers & Progression
The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Marketing creates a variety of opportunities upon completion. Direct progression onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business is a route taken by a significant number of our students. You could also approach our friendly and knowledgeable team at Themis who can assist you in enrolling onto an apprenticeship in a business related role.
Extra curricular activities
Students will take part in a range of visits, including trips to attractions such as Alton Towers and businesses along with guest speakers from industry. Students are also invited to take part in enrichment activities such as the climbing wall and local competitions. The college also run a variety of trips including a conservation trip to Thailand and a trip to the E3 Video Game Conference in Los Angeles. These trips are open to all students attending college.
