About the course

You will study ten units in total, which are portfolio based units. You will plan and run a series of enterprise activities linked to customer service, planning and running an event, understanding businesses in your area, bookkeeping and handling boardroom meetings and situations. This course is taught by a team of industry specialists with years of teaching experience. The lessons are a mix between practical and theory based lessons, this is to provide you with different elements of handling situations in the industry such as presentation and business pitches. The units that will be completed on this course are: Being Organised Developing a progression plan Working with others Researching a topic Finding out about Business in your area Branding a product Creating a visual display Presenting a business idea Contributing to running an event Recording income and expenditure On completion of this course, you will be able to progress onto Level 2 Business, employment or Apprenticeships. The course allows you the opportunity to understand the fundamentals behind businesses and the industry. You will be encouraged to link all classroom knowledge to real-life employable scenarios.

Entry Requirements

Two GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English OR a relevant Foundation learning qualification including GCSE grade 3 in English.

Assessment

The assessment process creates a variety of opportunities to demonstrate your knowledge. Assessment methods include; reports, presentations and evaluative pieces. Role play activities are also incorporated into the programme, allowing you to demonstrate newly acquired skills. You will also be assessed during practical sessions, supported by industry professionals. The set assignments are a natural continuation of classwork and our expert tutors will provide you with support to ensure you are given the opportunity to reach your full potential.

Careers & Progression

The nature of business and studying in this field means that there are tonnes of routes you can take once you've finished your studies. You can continue to study business or related subjects at a higher level through a university degree, move into an apprenticeship or move into employment. Previous learners have acquired apprenticeships in finance, marketing and others have gone onto work for lucrative film studios such as Marvel. Those who complete an advanced level in business or a related subject may find that they are able to move into entry level positions with salaries starting from around £19,000.

Equipment Needed

All equipment is provided by the college, however you must bring basic stationary to all classes, paper, pens and a folder to keep class notes. You must also be able to access the online learning platforms.

Equipment Supplied

You will have access to facilities and equipment designed to enhance your learning experience. Learn in our open-plan mezzanine space and access Chromebooks and Macs to develop real business materials.

Extra curricular activities

We provide many enrichment activities surrounding the course such as trips, strong employer engagement links with many guest speakers throughout the year from the industry. We develop world class employability skills such as interview skills and communication. We also provide enrichment through student services and student development days. Throughout the year we have themed months which include employability skills, careers month, history and other important life lessons.
