About the course
Refine your skills and develop your Art practice further. You will be given an introduction to a range of specialist techniques and will learn how to develop creative ideas, skills and intentions in response to tutor-led and live briefs, gaining an understanding of the creative process from research to realisation. This course explores experimental and creative methods within Drawing and Image, 3D sculpture and digital communication. Themes are current and engaging on the projects, building upon life skills and work experiences. The course will also involve working on self-initiated projects across a range of disciplines, enabling you to develop your strengths within all subject areas. Assessment is via coursework and practical assessment throughout the academic year. This is the perfect course to develop your skills and knowledge to progress onto a Level 3 creative course.

Entry Requirements
3 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including Art & Design, or a relevant Level 1 qualification. You will also need a portfolio of work to present at interview.

Assessment
Synoptic assessment requires learners to apply learning from across the qualification
to the completion of defined vocational tasks. These qualifications have been designed to promote iterative and integrated assessment through learning and teaching modules, providing a strong basis for synoptic assessment.

On successful completion of this course, you may progress onto Level 3 Art and Design.

Equipment Needed
You will need sketchbooks and a set of your own materials and equipment for independent study. A list will be provided prior to commencement of the course.
Equipment Supplied
Our open plan studios provide a contemporary, industry focussed working environment. You will have access to suites of iMacs, Photographic Studio and Dark Room, as well as Specialist 3D, Textile and Print-Making materials and equipment.
Enrichment Activities
As well as working with professional practitioners on live briefs you will have the opportunity to take part in external competitions. Throughout the course there is a programme of guest speakers and national and international gallery visits for you to participate in; for example Manchester City Gallery, Liverpool Tate, London Galleries, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Knit and Stitch Harrogate; recent residentials have included trips to Florence.
