About the course
The Level 1 course provides learners with an introduction to the skills, qualities and knowledge that is required for employment in the IT/Computing/Media sector. This course meets the needs of the Post 16 learners who come to College with a view to forging a career in the IT/Computing or Media sector. The course is designed to be taken over one year and offers a learner-centered approach to the curriculum, that focuses on the development of both transferable and sector skills, as well as the attributes and behaviors needed for learners to progress to further study and ultimately to employment. The course is designed to be delivered in such a way as to bringing together appropriate content with practical and technical skills. Learners are encouraged to develop their interpersonal skills and to become independent learners. The course will demand a lot of practical work from learners, who will complete a range of units, be organised, take assessments that will demonstrate their skills and keep a portfolio of their assignments. In addition to the main qualification, the course offers pastoral care and support (group tutorials and 1-1 support), English, Math's and an additional qualification and enrichment activities. The course enables learners to develop transferable skills and behaviors such as communication, listening, working with others, problem solving, managing information whilst ensuring learners recognise the importance of self- management and development, being organised, being on time and managing their time and workload efficiently using SMART targets. This course leads to progression onto a level 2 Computing or Media course, with the opportunity to progress to a level 3 course, then to university or an apprenticeship and ultimately into the world of work.
