Burnley College Students Unite with Calico and Lancashire Constabulary to Build a Safer Community

Burnley College is paving the way for a stronger and safer community thanks to an inspiring partnership with Calico and Lancashire Constabulary.

We’ve come together to support in a pressing challenge faced by residents of Pheasant Fold Green in Burnley. By involving our passionate Students, we are solving problems while creating rewarding learning experiences that shape the future careers of our Learners.

The initiative centres on tackling the recurring issue of trespassers using residents’ gardens as spaces to gather. Seeing the success of one resident who installed a fence to safeguard their garden, Constable Chris McKee turned to Burnley College to replicate the solution on a larger scale.

Our Level 2 Joinery Learners eagerly stepped up to the challenge. Guided by their experienced Tutor, Robert Nicholas, these Students crafted and installed 10 picket fences that ensure privacy and peace of mind for locals. They were also supported by Level 2 Multi-Trade Students who made the ages and our top-notch Level 2 Engineering Students to produce the metal brackets needed for the posts. They were neatly finished after being painted by Anthony Allen’s fantastic Level 2 Painting and Decorating Learners.

Beyond the community impact, this project offers invaluable hands-on learning opportunities for our Students, who crafted the fences in our brand-new Joinery Workshop in our state-of-the-art Industry Hub.

Take the first step today by exploring our campus and discovering how you can be part of Burnley College’s success story. Together, we’re transforming challenges into opportunities and building the foundation for a brighter future.
