Industry Engagement Specialist Avril Pilling has been awarded the Lord-Lieutenant’s Commendation for Veterans and Other Services Charities at the annual awards ceremony held at Blackburn Cathedral.
The prestigious award was presented by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Amanda Parker, at an evening that welcomed military personnel, cadets and civilians.
The commendation recognises Avril’s passion and commitment to championing the Armed Forces community at Burnley College. Over the past two and a half years, she has worked tirelessly to ensure that learners from across the Armed Forces community – including veterans and families of serving members – are recognised, supported and given every opportunity to thrive.
Avril, reflecting on her award, said:
“When you’re so invested in your job, you don’t think you’re going to get all these awards, but it’s nice to be recognised and know you’re making a difference.
“This award is really important because it recognises that Burnley College is serious about building on what we’ve already started in terms of an Armed Forces community within college and to continue to engage further afield and grow that community.”
