More than 6,400 learners from age 16 to adult, apprentices and university students are now part of an exciting new era at Burnley College.
It is a time of ambitious leadership, a renewed culture of inclusion and bold plans to widen access to education across the region. The college’s mission to build futures and change lives has gained remarkable momentum, powered by a strengthened Senior Management Team and a shared determination to ensure no learner is left behind.
The past few months have marked a period of significant transformation. Principal Jason Faulkner joined in February 2026, working alongside the then Chair of Governors David Brown and the newly appointed Chair of Governors Gill Bardin to reshape the strategic direction of the college. Together with a strengthened Senior Management Team, they have set Burnley College on a confident path forward.

Progress recognised across the board
An Ofsted monitoring visit on 22 and 23 April 2026 found significant progress across every area identified for development. Inspectors highlighted improvements in governance, data accuracy, teaching quality and learner attendance: a clear signal that the college’s new direction is already delivering results.
The visit reflects the collective strength of the leadership now guiding the college. The Senior Management Team unites behind a single purpose to raise standards, expand opportunity and give every learner the chance to succeed.
Widening access for every learner
Inclusivity sits at the heart of Burnley College’s vision. From 2026/27, the college will introduce new foundation courses designed to widen access and welcome learners who may previously have felt that education was out
of reach.
These courses form part of a broader ambition to reduce the number of young people not in education, employment or training across the region. By opening doors and removing barriers, the college aims to ensure that talent and potential have a place to grow.

A strategic plan shaped by the community
Looking ahead, Burnley College will launch a new strategic plan in January 2027. Developed with input from community leaders, employers and partners, the plan will set out how the college intends to serve the region for years
to come.
