Student creativity takes centre stage at new art exhibition

We have officially launched our latest student art exhibition, celebrating a vibrant collection of artwork and photography produced by students as a core part of their studies.

The end of year exhibition brings together a diverse range of work, from A Level and Vocational learners through to Burnley College University Courses (BCUC) degree students, capturing their imagination, skill and individual style. From striking photography to intricate comic illustrations to thoughtful fine art, the collection reflects the breadth of creative talent developing across the college.

To mark the launch, a special private viewing was held when friends, family gathered to celebrate the students’ achievements, enjoy the work first-hand and share in a proud moment for everyone involved.

Highly commended awards were presented to some of the most striking pieces, with Level 3 Year 2 Fine Art student Lucy Phillips gaining recognition for her children’s story book designs ‘Oliver and Millie’. Classmate Imogen Nuttall’s work was also highly commended. Her interpretation of the children’s book brief led her to create ‘Clover’s Fabulous Dream’ – a character on a mission to celebrate individual differences.

BCUC Year 3 Art & Design degree student Helen Leah was awarded highly commended for ‘The Carnival of Animals’, a distinctive collection of animals exploring the heritage and customs of of pearly kings and queens which she incorporated into the design of the 3D creations.

The exhibition represents the culmination of the student’s dedication and hard work. Each piece tells a story of growth, experimentation and creative confidence built throughout the students’ studies. Seeing their work on display offers a real sense of accomplishment and a glimpse of what our student artists can achieve.

Displaying the work across the college transforms our communal areas like the atrium into a celebration of creativity.

The artwork is on display until 24 June for students, staff and visitors to enjoy.
