About the course
This programme is for those learners who wish to pursue a career as an apprentice, but as yet have not gained employment within the industry area of their choice. The programme will enable you to develop a wide range of skills, knowledge and behaviours to aid your progression into employment as an apprentice in your chosen trade area. You can choose to study from a range of vocational areas, including; Electrical installation, Plumbing, Carpentry and Joinery, Furniture, Brickwork, Plastering and Painting and Decorating. You will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of practical skills, underpinned by supporting theory studies. Development of Maths and English skills will also be included in your study programme. Assessment will be by completion of a theory portfolio and a range of practical end tests in our industry standard workshop facilities.
A minimum grade of E/2 in both Maths and English is desirable for Construction Trades and Furniture programmes and a grade 4/C for both Plumbing and Electrical.
Assessment will be by the completion of a theory portfolio and a range of practical end tests, carried out in the area workshops. Both Maths and English will be assessed via the on-line examination system.
Careers & Progression
Completion of this programme will give you the knowledge skills and behaviours to progress to the work-based learning programme as an apprentice, or alternatively, further study as a full time learner on a study programme of your choice here at the college.
Extra curricular activities
You have the opportunity to represent the college in the national skills competition; Skilbuild. You will have the opportunity to visit a wide range of industry and manufacturing sites, to see the development and use of modern construction materials.
