About the course
This course will consist of: weekly face to face meetings with a published author, covering a range of areas which will help participants to understand the mechanics behind successful creative writing. The course will cover a range of genres and will allow students with an interest in all areas of creative writing to develop their skills. Teaching will be via a mixture of theory delivery, case study discussion and practical exercises designed to allow students to recognise successful techniques and apply these to their own work. Week 1 will cover “Story” – a look at narrative and plot development. Week 2 “Characterisation” looking at different forms of dialogue and development of character. Week 3 will cover “Scene and Setting”, Week 4 will cover “Sub-genre conventions” looking at writing for different audiences.
