About the course

This course is a day release Apprenticeship programme where you will spend four days with your employer and one day a week studying at College. Plumbers fit, service and repair hot and cold water systems, and heating systems in homes and businesses. If you want a varied job that makes good use of your practical skills and takes you out and about, this could be perfect for you. You will study health and safety which will enable you to achieve your CSCS card to allow you to work on building sites. The course will cover a range of topics that will prepare you for a career in industry, including employment rights and responsibilities, environmental awareness, key plumbing principles and processes, non-complex/complex cold/hot water systems and sanitation. Assessment of your NVQ Level 2 will be through a portfolio of work based evidence and assessment.

Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade D or above including English and Maths. GCSEs in IT and Science are also desirable. Applicants must be hardworking, reliable and motivated. As part of the interview process, Apprentices will undertake an assessment. Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements may also be considered.

Assessment

Apprentices are assessed via onsite assessments, practical tasks and on-line exams.

Careers & Progression

This course will prepare you for progression to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating. On successful completion of the course and further study, typical careers include, architecture, quantity surveying and a range of roles in the construction industry.
