About the course
Our Advanced Level full-time vocational courses are equivalent to three A Levels and offer an excellent combination of practical and academic study in preparation for university and employment. There are three specific pathways available which are chosen at the end of year one.

Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects including GCSE English Language, Mathematics and Science OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a Merit profile overall or above in a Science subject.
Modules
The mandatory Units are Principles and Applications of Science I and II (exam), Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques, Science Investigation Skills (external assessment of practical skills and exam), Laboratory Techniques and Their Application, Investigative Project and Contemporary Issues in Science (exam) and are common across all pathways. There are three optional pathways in year 2 : Applied Science : This course prepares you for a career or Higher Education in Biology, Chemistry or Physics. You will study topics such as: Physiology of Human Body Systems, Genetics and Genetic Engineering, Medical physics applications and Practical chemical analysis. Biomedical Science : This course prepares you for a career or Higher Education in Medical roles, as a Health Professional, Nursing, Radiography, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Zoology or Marine Biology. You will study topics such as: Physiology of Human Body Systems, Genetics and Genetic Engineering, Biomedical Science and Microbiological and Microbiological techniques. Analytical & Forensic Science: This course prepares you for a career or Higher Education in Laboratory Work, Scientific Research, Forensics or Pharmaceutical Science. You will study topics such as: Applications of inorganic chemistry, Applications of organic chemistry, Practical chemical analysis and Forensic evidence, collection and analysis.
Assessment
There following units are externally assessed Principles and Applications of Science I and II, Science Investigation skills & Contemporary Issues in Science. Other units will be internally assessed using a range of assessment methods including practical work, coursework, presentations and research tasks.
Careers & Progression
On successful completion of the full Extended Diploma our students have progressed to University to Radiography, Nursing, Biomedical Science, Forensic Science and other Science related fields. Students have also successfully gained employed in Apprenticeships.
