About the course

Film Studies is designed to deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film as the major art form of the twentieth century and one which is developing new modes of expression and exhibition in the twenty-first century. The films studied will be of varying genres and eras, although there will be a major focus on textual analysis. You will study a combination of films, from classic Hollywood to modern era, and global productions. There will be opportunities for you to present your ideas on a given film or technique to your peers and produce a short film or screenplay of your own. You can take advantage of a range of resources in our Active Learning Zones, including film magazines such as Empire, and DVDs from a huge variety of genres to expand your knowledge of the filmic form, including foreign features.
