About the course
The study of History helps you to understand the world as it is today. It is a subject in which you will develop analysis, synthesis and debate skills. These are marketable skills which employers find invaluable. The A Level History course aims to develop an appreciation of historical change, including a study of the Tudor period of English History 1485-1603 and Democracy and Nazism: Germany 1918-1945. For your coursework there is also the requirement to study, in depth, a key period in History and you will investigate a period from a selected list, including: witchcraft, the Glorious Revolution, the British Empire, Irish republicanism, Russian economics, and Yugoslavian identity . There will be various opportunities to participate in trips and residential visits.

At least six GCSEs at grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects, including both English and Mathematics. Additional entry requirements for this course are: A grade 5 in GCSE History.
This course is assessed in the following way: 20% coursework 80% external examination
Careers & Progression
On successful completion of this course you may decide to progress onto an Apprenticeship or a Higher/Degree Apprenticeship. You will also have the opportunity to progress onto Degree courses. Careers that this course may lead to include Curator, Teacher, Archeologist and Journalist.
Extra curricular activities
The department organises a variety of trips and residentials. In recent years, students have visited Munich for an extended study trip, as well as a trip to view the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum in Italy. You will also benefit from a wide range of guest speakers to enrich the curriculum.
