Student Success Story

Tyler Manton

Tyler Manton, 32, from Burnley, completed a Skills Bootcamp in Welding at Burnley College and is now putting his technical knowledge into practice in a fast-paced, exciting role at Graham Engineering in Nelson.

After redundancy, Tyler decided to make the bold move to return to education and expand his skillset, following his passions and laying the foundation for a successful career in a new industry.

“It was definitely nerve-wracking to return to learning after so long, but I really wanted to prove to myself that I was capable of making a positive change and finding a new path for myself.”

He found that Burnley College offered exactly what he needed: industry-experienced tutors, opportunities to explore his curiosity and an assessment style that suited his eagerness to work on practical projects with tangible end products from the very beginning.

Tyler’s experience with the Skills Bootcamp was transformative. He progressed from the basics – clamping metal and setting up a welding plant – to producing solid, professional-grade welds in weeks. With the support of his tutors, he excelled in his technical training and massively boosted his confidence.

“The feedback I received from my tutors was always insightful and constructive. They encouraged me to learn from my mistakes and to strive for consistent improvement in my work.

“I knew that I was taking on quite the challenge trying to master a completely new field and ideally wanted to go straight into employment afterwards. My tutors supported that ambition every step of the way.”

Upon successful completion of the Skills Bootcamp, Tyler was offered a professional role with local manufacturing firm Graham Engineering. He strongly recommends this course to anyone like him who is looking to boost their prospects and take their career in a new direction.

“Doing this Skills Bootcamp has given me the assurance that if there’s something I want to achieve – I should just go for it.”
