Student Success Story

Holly Emmott

Holly knew university wasn’t for her but had the passion to continue learning. She started her career ar Verity & Co Homes and was offered the opportunity to complete a level 4 qualification alongside her role as Assistant Technical Coordinator. The qualiification tied in closely with her job role.

“I really enjoyed the course. My tutors were really helpful and I particularly enjoyed the planning side, giving me deeper understanding of some aspects of work. The learning in college made everything click – learning the different standards for construction was a vital part of the course.

“Coming from school back into education on a university felt a bit daunting for Holly as she didn’t know what to expect and hoped it wasn’t someone talking at her all day – it was the complete opposite – she found everyone to be welcoming and helpful.”

My highlight was working as part of the team to start a new construction site and seeing it now it’s at completion is really rewarding. I helped design the kitchens for the new builds and seeing them in the finished houses is a special feeling.

“I have an 18 month development plan. Technical Coordinator is my next goal, then eventually onto a senior manager or director.”
