Sustainability at Burnley College

The Low Carbon Hub

Our state-of-the-art Low Carbon Hub is at the heart of our sustainability efforts. Our pioneering, multi-million-pound facility is designed to support small and medium-sized businesses in reducing their carbon footprint and achieving net zero targets.

The Hub is a unique space where businesses, students and the wider community can come together to find solutions that make a real difference in building a sustainable future.

100% Renewable Energy
All energy on campus comes from a green supply for a completely renewable approach.

Solar Power
Our 1,400 solar panels generate between 12%-20% of the electricity we use on-site, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.

Smart Energy Management
With advanced sensors and a Building Management System, we automatically optimise heating, lighting and equipment usage to minimise wastage.

Monitored Metering Systems
Regular energy tracking helps us optimise resource use while identifying opportunities for improvements and innovation.

Smart Displays Across Campus
Interactive displays and electronics provide energy-efficient information and promote sustainability awareness.

Sustainability isn’t just about infrastructure; it’s about creating a community driven by green values. We encourage everyone on campus to actively support sustainable practices and lead by example.

Natural Habitats for Wildlife
We have planted additional trees and sown wildflower seeds to support the growth of flora and fauna. This re-wilding creates natural habitats and encourages biodiversity.

Our newest development further complements our dedication to sustainability.

Hands-On Learning Hub
The Industry Hub enables practical, hands-on sessions in a variety of fields, promoting skills suited to the challenges of tomorrow.

Expanded Facilities
Additional sports facilities, parking areas, and dynamic learning environments have all been integrated thoughtfully into the surrounding landscape.
