About this vacancy

Founded in 1985 Saco remains a family-owned business located in Burnley, Lancashire. An exciting opportunity has arisen for them to take on a took-making apprentice.

Your role would be to assist with the making of precision tools to create products and parts. The setting of  Transfer presses to prepare the machines before production, perform test runs, if necessary, adjust and make minor repairs to the machinery before and during operation.

  • Block release, off-the-job training at Burnley College. Plus training will be provided in fitting, drilling, milling, turning, hardening, and tempering skills at the company.
  • Second Year – On completion of first-year block release, training to continue at Saco under supervision of the Toolroom Manage, consisting of developing skills learned in the first year and learning additional skills such as surface grinding and cylindrical grinding.
  • Opputunity to progress onto HNC
  • Ensuring you wear appropriate PPE at all time

Duties/main responsibilties include:

  • Maintain safe working practices and good housekeeping at all times and be able to understand and apply Health, Safety, and Environment requirements.
  • Assisting with the making of precision tools to create products and parts. The setting of  Transfer presses to prepare the machines before production, perform test runs,and, if necessary, adjust and make minor repairs to the machinery before and during operation.
