About this vacancy

Wyvern Pharmacy are an internet chemist and independent NHS Community Pharmacy serving the people of Accrington, Lancashire and the whole of England. They offer a prescribing service for access to selected prescription only medicines after consultation with our prescribing pharmacist. With a hand-picked team of support staff, the aim of Wyvern Pharmacy is to provide the customer with the support needed to allow them to be in control of their prescriptions. There is an exciting new opportunity for a Pharmacy Dispensing Assistant Apprentice to join the Wyvern Pharmacy team at their offices in Accrington and you will be working towards a level 2 Pharmacy Service Assistant Qualification.

Duties/main responsibilties include:

Daily duties within the role include:

  • To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription
  • Take orders and requests from patients over the phone
  • To answer any incoming phone calls appropriately
  • To be able to process incoming prescriptions from the doctors and label correctly
  • Meeting and greeting patients politely, handing out prescriptions to patients or their representative, checking the patients name and address when handing them out
  • To collect NHS prescription charges due and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient
  • Dispense private prescriptions, calculating cost to the patient, ensure records of private prescription and charges are kept appropriately, issue receipt to the patients appropriately
  • To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately stored and banked and a record kept of all financial transactions
  • Ensure all prescription money is balanced daily and queries resolved at the time of balancing.
  • To endorse paper prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms to the administrator for processing prior to sending off to the PPA
  • To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the pharmacy with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock
  • Checking goods in received from suppliers appropriately in relation to the SOP’s
  • To ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order
  • Disposing of patient returned medications using the yellow bin, any CDs to be disposed of following the procedure
  • Preparing Blister packs where required (training provided if needed)
  • Ensuring all items are ready for the delivery service in an appropriate timely manner ready for the delivery driver
  • To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service
  • Able to work efficiently and prioritise work load according to importance in order to get all work completed before the end of the day

Working week

Monday – Friday

9am – 5:30pm with 1 hour for lunch.
