Padiwacks are offering an opportunity for an apprentice to join their busy ad experienced team. Over the course of the apprenticeship you will gain valuable working experiences within childcare and become a vital member of staff. This positions requires someone with a passion for childcare and can see a long term future within the sector.

Applicants for this position must have a level 2 early years qualification  alongside GCSE grades C (4) or above in both Maths and English. For this right candidate this position could lead to future full time employment and progression within the business.

Duties/main responsibilties include:

Quality of Service

  • Ensure children are cared for in a happy, safe and stimulating environment.
  • To have a sound understanding of child development and to provide a range of stimulating learning experiences designed to meet the children’s all round development.
  • Ensure that each child’s full potential is developed in the social, emotional, physical and intellectual sense and that the child’s welfare, independence and self-esteem as an individual and as member of a group, is paramount at all times.
  • Plan, prepare and evaluate activities and programmes of work to meet the needs of all the children.
  • Organise play facilities, to set out attractively and supervise appropriate stimulating activities.
  • Assist in the preparation and cleaning up of activities, encouraging the? children to help wherever possible.
  • Participate in observing, monitoring, evaluating and recording children’s activities in order to maintain written records.
  • Assess appropriately and record the development for all key children in your group and write regular reports.
  • Encourage children’s language development and to encourage the development of home languages where appropriate.
  • Care for the general well being of the children to include nappy changing, toilet training and to encourage personal hygiene.
  • Assist with action on issues raised through OFSTED inspections.
  • Accept responsibility for the cleanliness and safety of the childcare environment

Partnership with parents/ carers and other professionals

  • Work in partnership with parents/ carers to provide consistent, high quality, non discriminatory early years education and childcare which meets the needs of each individual child and family and which enables the child to realize their full potential and achieve a good self image.
  • Ensure that a welcoming and secure environment is provided at all times.
  • Foster and develop good relationships with parents/carers of key children and to share with them accurate information about their child’s progress and development.
  • Ensure that parents /carers are kept informed of developments in the nursery at all times.
  • Liaise with other professional bodies and managing agents of trainees.

Team work

  • Work as part of a team across the whole nursery
  • Carry out other duties as determined by the management including attendance at all staff meetings and appropriate training.
  • Encourage positive behavior by presenting yourself as a role model both within and outside of nursery.
  • Supervise and mentor students in placement, nursery assistants and volunteers.
  • To carry out and participate in training programmes and assessments of colleagues and trainees in line with relevant guidelines.
  • Contribute to the general decoration of the nursery e.g. wall displays.
  • Participate in and contribute to all staff meetings.
  • To participate in a flexible working pattern to ensure the needs of users are met.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure that equipment and materials are cleaned and cleared away and rooms are left neat and tidy at the end of the day.
  • Ensure that toys and equipment are maintained in good order and that any faulty or potentially dangerous equipments is immediately removed and reported to the management.
  • To ensure that the outside play area is safe and secure and that the outdoor equipment is in a clean and safe condition.
  • Familiar with procedures carried out in case of an accident or fire.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene at all times and to follow infection control procedures.
  • Oversee and assist with the preparation, distribution and clearing away of meals and snacks for the children whilst following standard food hygiene procedures.

Child protection

  • Act promptly and appropriately in matters relating to Child Protection referring to the management for guidance.
  • Ensure confidentiality at all times.

Self Development

  • Identify own training needs in conjunction with the management.
  • Develop own knowledge and skills by attending relevant training ensure your continuing qualification for the position in light of future changes in OFSTED requirements and to cascade this information to colleagues.

Working week

Monday to Friday 8:30 – 17 :30
