About this vacancy

Devoted to the medical industry, Orthoplastics is a world leader in the development and supply of both implantable-grade plastics and also biocompatible plastics for instrument applications. Orthoplastics is recognised globally as the leading supplier of UHMWPE, supplying many of the world’s orthopaedic device manufacturers. Its premium grade UHMWPE is expertly manufactured onsite in the UK and is the material of choice in a wide range of orthopaedic implants and devices for applications in hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, ankles and fingers. There is an exciting new opportunity for 4 CNC Machinist Apprentices to join the Orthoplastics team at their site in Bacup.

Personal skills and knowledge they are looking for include:

  • Computer literacy
  • Health & Safety procedures
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Conversion of measurement from imperial to metric
  • 3 GCSE (C or above) levels in Mathematics, English and preferably one Science subject or equivalent qualifications
  • Working towards an Engineering related qualification if applicable

Duties/main responsibilties include:

Duties within the role include: 

  • Set and operate CNC machines
  • Machining high quality, close tolerance replacement prosthetics components
  • Conducting physical and visual checks on medical components, rejecting and returning unacceptable
    materials/parts
  • Working towards client-specific and high quality production
  • Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to
  • Ensure that all products are thoroughly quality checked
  • To learn all aspects of Medical Machining including setting and operating various CNC machines in both Milling and Turning sections
  • Attendance and completion of training deemed appropriate for the position and current educational level of the employee

Working week

Monday – Thursday

8am – 5pm

Friday

8am – 1pm
