I write this final update from England after an amazing final weekend together in France. It started off with a visit to the house of Jean Monnet – the first founding father of the European Union, and we got to see where the first treaties and agreements establishing the EU were drafted and signed, and learn about what inspired his ideas and how he developed his thoughts. We also had a presentation on Jean Monnet's story and 'Europe today', which gave rise to some interesting discussions after...

Not only is this a fantastic result that shows just how hard students have been working, it is well above the 2013 national average of 64%.  Among the successful graduates was Artur Kasza from Nelson, who achieved a 2:1 Degree in Computing. He said: “I chose to study at UCLan Burnley because it has a great reputa...

The week so far has been brilliant, and I'm completely shattered already. It probably doesn't help that early on Monday morning, straight after our extremely late World Cup celebrations on Sunday night, we were piling into a slow-cooker with wheels and heading towards the beach. But I don't think we minded too much because it was 32°c and we were off for sun, sea, and sand! Well, pebbles actually. So being the genius that I am, I didn't bring any sandals, and I'm pretty sure I lost a toe or two ...

This weekend we really started to come together as a group. The first activity of the weekend involved a presentation from the local Europe Direct on the function and history of the European Union. This was really interesting to learn about, especially directly from some civil servants to the EU, and I realised I knew virtually nothing about the EU before! It was great to understand more about the union we are a part of, especially in light of recent political conflict over membership of the EU....

The main focus of Wednesday was a tour around the area in which the fighting of World War I took place. We drove past fields where trenches and shell-holes once were, and a historian accompanied us to discuss details and explain the importances of areas and monuments. The most touching part of the day was when we visited a military cemetery. There were so many rows of white crosses for the French men, grey crosses for the German men, and graves of other shapes for those from other religions or ...
