  • To provide support in all aspects of finance, accounting, reception, human resources and administrative processes.
  • To learn the principals of transactional processes and support provided to internal and external customers.
  • Understand the basic elements of double entry book keeping and accounting standards required to process financial documents and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts.
  • Understand how to enter accounting transactions, perform reconciliations, correct errors and produce reports using computerised accounting and donor database systems.
  • Assist in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns.
  • To develop effective communication skills, working both independently and as part of a team, and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills when dealing with internal and external customers
  • To understand the charity sector specific requirements, process all types of donations and sponsorship monies and securely handle large amounts of cash and cheques.


  • Processing all types of donations and sponsorship monies from events to the Hospice.
  • The secure handling of large amounts of cash/cheques including the routine collection of these by third party contractors.
  • Processing supplier invoices including checking, matching against purchase orders and inputting onto accounting system.
  • Inputting daily cash and bank transactions and preparing the bank reconciliation
  • Preparation, sending and ensuring payment of invoices for goods and services provided by the Hospice
  • Collating and entering of financial information from Hospice shops
  • Administration of the gift aid declaration forms by inputting data, validating data, scanning and uploading forms
  • Provide assistance with month end management accounts and year end duties.
  • Supporting the smooth running of the Hospice Reception including greeting visitors, answering telephone enquiries, taking cash donations and monies from sale goods in the reception foyer and franking out-going post. 
  • Providing administration support to the Payroll/HR team including volunteer coordination, recruitment packs and  updating training records for staff and volunteers
  • Attend all other relevant meetings and participate in the development of Hospice policies, procedures and standards relating to the finance/reception/administration function.
  • Various other office and general duties as required including administrative support to other areas of the hospice where capacity allows.
  • Ensure that Hospice policies, procedures and standards are adhered to at all times; with particular regard to those concerning confidentiality, information governance, and health and safety.
  • Work effectively with other members of the finance, reception and administration team, ensuring operational priorities and deadlines are met
  • Work with management, trustees and other Hospice colleagues to ensure the professional and efficient operation of the Hospice
  • Attend college weekly and complete Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Accounting
  • Complete mandatory training according to the Hospice training schedule

Working week

  • The hours of work will be Monday to Friday 8.30am-4.30pm
  • Total hours per week: 36.50

Annual wage - £9,125.00
