The cover star of our latest Burnley College Sixth Form Centre prospectus is planning a summer working and travelling in America as she progresses towards her dream career in drama therapy.
Ellie Cook is in the first year of a degree in Drama: Education and Community at York St John University after receiving outstanding grades in her ,A Levels in Drama and Theatre Studies, Psychology and Religion and Philosophy at College.
She returned to College recently to update us on her progress and thank the Tutors whose individual support, guidance and encouragement it possible.
Ellie will be travelling to America this summer to take up a post as Camp Play Director at a holiday camp for young people in Wisconsin. She will oversee provision for 600 children and young people, running drama workshops and games, as well as helping them to stage a play. She found out about the opportunity through a visitor to university and plans to travel around the country once her time in the camp ends.
She said: "I'm loving my degree course at University and the university life: it's everything I hoped it would be and I can't really believe that my first year is almost over!
"The support I had at College really helped me to make the change from A Levels to degree studies. As a College student I was encouraged to manage my own time which has really come in helpful at University, when I've got lots of different assignments and deadlines to juggle.
"Plus, I felt that the trips I'd been on to different universities and the advice and guidance I received from Student Services about budgeting, finances etc, really prepared me for what to expect."
