A team of motivated Advanced Level Media students from Burnley College Sixth Form Centre interviewed stars of the 2019 Northern Power Women Awards to gain vital work experience..
Tutors Jason Frost and Dave Easton led a talented team of eight students at the prestigious annual event, staged at the Manchester Central Convention Complex.
The event celebrates collaboration to accelerate gender diversity across the North and acknowledges the inspiration individuals who have made a real difference in their chosen fields. This year there were more than 900 nominations submitted in a variety of categories, with a team of 53 judges taking on the difficult task of finding the winners.
Eight ambitious students from College took advantage of the opportunity to take their classroom learning and apply it in a high-pressure Media setting, taking photographs and interviewing award winners on the night, as well as celebrity guests, including Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham; Patron of Northern Power Women Baroness Newlove of Warrington, Radio 5 Live presenter Sam Walker (Radio 5 Live); founder of Northern Power Women Simone Roche MBE and professional boxer Stacey Copeland.
A further team at College also used their creative and IT skills to produce an attention-grabbing opening to the show, which included a voiceover, and a video sequence.
The theme of the event was #WeCan, with Burnley College Sixth Form Centre students illustrating how, through expert tuition and knowledge, they can take their skills straight from the classroom into industry.
Many of the students are planning university study and then successful careers within the Media sector after completing their Advanced Vocational studies, with some already completing valuable work experience at Liverpool FC and BBC Introducing to broaden their skills, knowledge and experience still further.
