Emily Speirs (18), from Burnley, was unable to attend the College's prestigious Awards For Excellence ceremony last month as she was rushed into hospital. However, Principal Karen Buchanan was keen to ensure that Emily's dedication and D*D*D* results did not go unnoticed.
Now an undergraduate at the University of Central Lancashire, studying Adult Learning, Emily was presented with her award and certificate and congratulated on her outstanding effort.
Karen Buchanan said: "Emily was looking forward to attending the Awards For Excellence ceremony and celebrating alongside her family, friends, Tutors and dignitaries. We were disappointed when she was rushed into hospital the day before and could not make it but we are delighted that she is back to full health once again and enjoying her degree studies at UCLAN."
The College's Award for Excellence was another trophy to add to her collection as Emily, a former pupil at Blessed Trinity RC College, also received the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust Cadet of the Year award for her work on placement in hospital as part of her course.
Emily said: "The support I received from the Tutors at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre made all the difference to me and really helped me to achieve my dreams. They always went that extra mile to ensure that students fully understood their lessons and were always there to offer individual support.
"I chose Burnley College after visiting on an open event: I was so impressed with the Tutors, the course content and the facilities. I only knew one other person when I arrived but soon made new friends who I'll always be in touch with. We supported and encouraged each other all the way through our course."
