Sport students from the University of Central Lancashire’s Burnley Campus were recently given the exciting opportunity to meet Olympic medalists during a trip to the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield. The trip was organised to give students an insight into the state-of-the-art facilities and the work ethic needed to succeed in a career within elite level sports.
Foundation degree students in Sports Coaching, Sports Science and Health and Personal Training visited the EIS and took part in boxing and athletics sessions, as well as a tour of the world class facilities available to athletes at the institute.
The visit culminated with the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet Olympic Gold medal winning heptathlete Jess Ennis-Hill pas well as Olympic Silver medalist and Strictly Come Dancing star Louis Smith.
Craig Trafford, Programme Leader for HE Sport and Public Services, said of the visit:
“The trip was a huge success. It allowed students to experience an elite development centre and gain an understanding of what it takes to work in professional sport. It was an amazing and eye-opening experience for our students.”
All undergraduates at UCLan Burnley receive many opportunities to enhance their studies with visits such as this one, guest lectures, residentials and more.
