Burnley College Big Bang Week

posted on

Burnley College Big Bang Week exploded with exciting exhibitions this week, with help from universities and scientific organisations from across the North.

This week, Burnley College has teamed up with UCLan, Salford, York, Lancaster and Manchester Universities as well as the Royal Society of Chemistry and Manchester Polymer Group/Create Education to showcase some of the most exciting moments in science in our Burnley College Big Bang Week event. The week saw a huge variety of interactive scientific demonstrations take place in the college atrium, encouraging visitors and students to engage with the technology and scientific experiments that were happening all around them. From making models of microscopic algae and amoeba as seen through microscopes with UCLan's Ri Young Scientist Centre and extracting DNA from kiwi fruit with our own Burnley College biology department to live 3d printer demonstrations from Manchester Polymer Group and an involving 40 minute demonstration from Salford University about the different ways oxygen and nitrogen can react under different temperatures and pressures, the week has been eventful to say the least! Today is the last day to see some of the exciting science demos in the atrium, so from 12:30pm onwards make sure to visit each stand at Burnley College Big Bang Week and find out more about the interesting world of our science departments!
