Weeks of gruelling competition have ended with Burnley College Sixth Form Centre’s famous student Cody Frost getting through to the grand finale of BBC’s talent finding programme, The Voice.
Advanced Music student Cody wowed audiences after her first on-screen audition saw her singing ABBA’s hit “Lay All your Love On Me”, forcing judges Paloma Faith, Boy George and Ricky Wilson to fight over who would become Cody’s mentor.
Of course, Cody chose the mentorship of Boy George, who recognised the uniqueness of her voice and her fresh individuality throughout the competition. Performing showstopping moments like her rendition of Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” and Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”, the song that got her through to the final, Cody was arguably the most memorable contestant The Voice has ever seen.
When Cody began her studies at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre she was keen to turn her educational career around and achieve her potential. Her continued desire to study music led her to enrol on Burnley College Sixth Form Centre’s outstanding Advanced Music course and her grades improved hugely.
With the support of her tutors, Cody was able to follow her dreams and take the amazing opportunity of appearing on The Voice while continuing to study towards her qualifications. Her tutors are now looking forward to supporting Cody back in College, as she works hard to achieve her dreams of being a successful musician via a more traditional route.
Head of Burnley College Sixth Form Centre Alison Cameron-Brandwood said: “Having the opportunity to appear on The Voice, a huge national TV phenomenon, was an opportunity that was too good to be missed for a budding star like Cody and we were happy to be able to support with her studies throughout. Now the show has come to an end, we’ll continue to support her with her passion for music just as we have since her course began in 2015.”
