2016 is your year – get engaged, get inspired and get ahead with Burnley’s first ever careers and professional development expo.
On Wednesday 20 January something exciting is happening. UCLan Burnley, Themis and Burnley College are coming together to present the first Professional Development Expo at Burnley College’s Princess Way campus. The PDE is open to anyone who is looking to progress their careers, return to training or change the course of their future entirely. A combination of information hubs, expert seminars and professional development surgeries, you’ll be able to meet people in the know and get a real foothold in the career you’re passionate about. Want to know more? Here are some of our most frequently asked questions, answered. When is the PDE? It will be open from 5.30pm – 7.30pm on Wednesday 20 January 2016. Where is it being held? UCLan Burnley, Burnley College and Themis are co-hosting the event at Burnley College on Princess Way, Burnley, BB12 0AN. Who is running it? Adult Learning at Burnley College, Themis and UCLan Burnley are co-hosting the event. Is this an information evening? In a way, yes. In another way, it’s so much more. Guest speakers will be presenting talks on specialist areas as diverse “How to be the perfect interview candidate” to “public speaking for the terrified”. Visiting business owners and recruitment specialists will be offering insider info and tips from their dedicated stands. You could say it’s an information evening, but we think you’ll find it full of so much more practical support than that. Can I book a place at any of the talks? Every talk is filled on a first-come, first-serve basis and so places are limited based on their popularity. They are short though – only half an hour each – so if you do unfortunately miss out, the presenters will be available throughout the rest of the Professional Development Expo to network with and share their expertise. Can I bring my children? We understand that childcare can be a complicated issue, especially on a weekday evening, and so children are able to attend. It is not a child-specific event however and the talks and networking sessions could prove quite challenging for young children’s attention spans. (We apologise but no children under the age of 7 are permitted into the lecture theatre for talks.) Will there be refreshments? Yes! Free refreshments will be provided throughout the evening for visitors and guests of the Professional Development Expo. Will I be able to apply for a course at the PDE? If you find a course that was made for you and you’re eager to apply, staff will be on hand to support you with your application. You will also be able to make payments on the night. Please note that course start dates take place throughout the year and waiting lists may apply. Will there be information about course costs and funding? Yes – a team will be on hand to discuss the funding options available to you no matter which course or training programme you are interested in. I have a disability – is the PDE accessible for me? The Burnley College campus on Princess Way is a state-of-the-art building and is fully accessible. Should you have more specific needs or requirements, please get in touch on firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be more than happy to help you gain the support you need. I can’t make it on the 20th, will you be hosting another one? Currently there are plans to hold another Professional Development Expo later in the year, but no solid dates have been confirmed. If you cannot attend the PDE on January 20th but are interested in training or developing your career, please contact email@example.com or call into the College and one of our trained NCS advisors will be happy to help take your career aspirations further.
