With just under four weeks to go until the big day, Burnley College is already busy making sure this year’s event will be a festive day to remember.
With more square footage both inside and out, this year more of the Burnley College campus than ever will be open to the public than in 2014. Elves and helpers have been drafted in from near and far to help entertain the crowds, keeping queuing, walking and seated visitors laughing and smiling with jokes, treats, tricks and ad-hoc performances. Visitors will be able to take part in exciting activities in more of the College buildings too; the Performance Theatre, new teaching block, Construction and Future Technologies Centre and the Refectory will all be open to wanderers and revellers. The courtyard space to the rear of College has more than doubled in size since last year’s event thanks to the College’s new expansion, giving visitors more space to enjoy strolling between the festive stalls. We’ve been managing the space by managing the number of stalls and kiosks used in each area to make it easier for visitors to move from activity to activity. Our Traders are all ready and raring to go and are expecting another busy and exciting event, so they’ll be making sure they bring enough goodies to feed and refresh everybody. Importantly, there will be an abundance of mulled wine and hot chocolate to keep hands and hearts toasty warm outside! We will be working to move foot-traffic safely from activity to activity and we have worked with Burnley Borough Council to advise on safety issues like fire marshalling and crowd control. We will also be working with the Council to offer external parking options for visitors coming by car. (Flying sleighs may park on the roof, upon prior arrangement.) A pram park and baby changing facilities will be available in a separate, easily accessible area and more seating areas and quieter spaces will be provided to make sure every visitor, big and small, feels welcome at our magical event. Remember though, we aren’t as far away as you think! Burnley College is only 5 minutes from the centre of town and the bus station, and under 5 minutes from Burnley Central train station which will have signposts directing you to Winter Wonderland from the platforms. Winter Wonderland will give you the perfect opportunity for some Christmas shopping in Burnley, with fantastic Christmas present ideas in the market and Charter Walk shopping centre which has recently seen the opening of brand new toy shop The Entertainer. Burnley is open, so make the most of it! The reaction to last year’s unprecedentedly popular event was incredible and we’ve been looking closely at ways to make this year’s Winter Wonderland even better, ensuring that this year even more people can come and enjoy the magic. We hope you can make it! Check the Facebook event for updates and sneak previews.
