Outstanding students Hannah Till and Danny Mort have successfully secured competing places for the second year at the Gothia World Cup 2015, as part of Burnley College Sixth Form Centre’s Football Academy Teams.
The Gothia Cup is the world’s largest and international youth football tournament. Each year, around 1600 teams from 80 nations take part and they play 4500 games on 110 fields.
Alongside achieving this outstanding success for a second year, students Hannah Till and Danny Mort have been offered sports scholarships at prestigious universities in America.
Hannah who studied A Levels at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, was scouted in the Gothia cup in 2014 and was selected to receive a scholarship at Indian Hills College
in Iowa, America.
Hannah said: “I had never thought that I could receive a college scholarship until I was encouraged by my College coach to show off my skills to the agencies that were scouting at the Gothia World cup. I would like to thank Burnley College Sixth Form Centre for their support and encouragement throughout my time at the college, if it wasn’t for them I may not have achieved what I have today.”
Danny Mort who studied a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching
at UCLan Burnley, secured his scholarship through American trials at a ‘Showcase Day’ in Cardiff. These trials secured him a position at Northwest College
, Cody, Wyoming.
Danny Said: “I have wanted this opportunity since a very young age and have been playing at amateur level until now. Thanks to the facilities, support and encouragement that I have received from tutors throughout my time at Burnley College & UCLan Burnley I have been able to increase both my skillset and my confidence in my sports abilities.”
We would like to wish the best of luck to all of the sports students that are involved in the Gothia World Cup and congratulate them for getting through to the tournament for a second year.
