Burnley College Sixth Form Centre was named the most successful place to study Care in the country in May 2015.
With outstanding facilities built and designed with Care studies in mind, the Burnley College Sixth Form Centre health and social care
division has worked with employers, tutors and students to bring the best equipment and teaching into the department.
Health and Social Development is a diverse and demanding career path and popularity for our courses has increased dramatically in recent years. Our division looks to create real-world and practical learning experiences as much as possible to increase the understanding of students. Tutors on each course are experienced health and social development professionals themselves and can pass on their real-world knowledge in the classroom as well as in practical sessions.
The Iris Suite
The Iris Suite is a fully-developed Dementia care facility built and furnished with the highest-quality industry standard equipment. Working directly with care providers and experts, Burnley College Sixth Form Centre was able to provide a learning environment as close as possible to one that would be found in care homes and clinics around the UK.
The suite includes an independence kitchen, dementia friendly dining area, bedroom and bathroom, lifting equipment, VitalSim multi function manikin and a variety of tools to aid dementia sufferers.
Jayne Hodson, Head of Division for Health and Social Care was delighted with the findings of the Skills Funding Agency's performance tables:
“We are thrilled that Burnley College Sixth Form Centre has been confirmed as the most successful College in the country for Health, Social Care, Early Years and Public Services. This recognition highlights the outstanding success rates our students achieve each year within these areas.”
