Burnley College shortlisted for prestigious Employer of the Year Award

Burnley College has been shortlisted in the Employer of the Year category in the prestigious annual Red Rose Awards, run by Lancashire Business View.

The College employs more than 500 people in a variety of vital roles, from inspirational Tutors, passionate about their chosen subjects, and highly-skilled trainers, with years of industry experience, to approachable support staff with the specialist skills which makes the Burnley College experience so unique in the country’s educational landscape.

To reach the finals, the College submitted a written entry before managers were invited before a panel of judges, taking with them a video about College life in which staff spoke enthusiastically about their careers and working environment. There is now a tense wait until the awards ceremony, to be staged at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, in mid-March, where the winners will be announced.

Deputy Principal Simon Jordan, who was one of the team representing College before the judges, said:

“Burnley College is a truly amazing place to work where, in whatever your role, you are helping people to build futures and change lives. As a Burnley College family of staff, we’re focussed on ensuring students and Themis Apprentices have every opportunity to be the very best they can; have the chance to broaden their horizons and enjoy experiences which will shape their futures.

“We value our staff greatly and recognise the skills, knowledge, talent and passion they bring to their diverse roles. As a leading employer, we’ve created a culture where every member of staff is encouraged to continue learning; is empowered to share their knowledge with their peers and their achievements are recognised.”

As part of their entry, Burnley College detailed how staff are supported, motivated and inspired to make a difference through:

  • Ongoing professional and personal development opportunities
  • Regular Personal Development Plans
  • Staff Development Days
  • A comprehensive range of staff benefits, including the ability to buy additional holidays, online purchase schemes, gourmet takeaway offers and onsite car valeting and doggy day care
  • Mindfulness sessions
  • Gym and fitness class access

Simon Jordan added:

“To reach the finals of the Red Rose Awards is a great honour and testament to each and every member of staff who makes Burnley College the amazing place it is. To be able to build futures and change lives is a true privilege and one in which every member of staff is deeply invested.”
