About the course

Designed specifically for adult learners, this part-time course provides an excellent introduction to painting and decorating techniques and the construction industry, whether you are considering a career change, looking to enhance your DIY skills, or planning to progress into employment within the trade.

Delivered in a supportive workshop environment, the course combines hands-on practical training with essential underpinning knowledge. You will learn how to work safely with decorating tools, equipment, and materials while developing the skills needed to prepare surfaces, apply decorative finishes, and achieve professional standards of workmanship.

Throughout the programme, you will gain experience in a range of core painting and decorating techniques, including surface preparation, applying paint by brush and roller, hanging wallcoverings, and creating decorative finishes. You will also develop an understanding of health and safety, construction technology, colour selection, and professional working practices within the construction sector.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of the Level 1 Certificate in Painting and Decorating or confident basic skills in painting and decorating.
