About the course

Throughout the course, you will develop both academic and technical skills while exploring key areas of modern computing. Topics include computer systems, programming, cybersecurity, computer networks, web design and development, artificial intelligence, software development, robotics and control systems. You will also complete a research project, allowing you to investigate an area of computing that interests you in greater depth. Alongside technical knowledge, you will build the study skills needed for success at university through modules such as Academic Writing, Presentation Skills and Preparing for Higher Education. The programme develops your research, critical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning skills, helping you make a successful transition into Higher Education and preparing you for future opportunities within the growing digital sector.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must hold GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications in English at the point of enrolment. Please note that some universities may require GCSEs rather than Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications. Careers & Progression

Successful completion of the Access to HE Diploma (Computing) opens the door to a wide range of university degree programmes. Learners can progress to our BSC Computing degree here at BCUC or a range of other university courses such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computing for Business, Computing and ICT, and Computer Science with Mathematics. Those interested in teaching may also pursue Computer Science and Education with Qualified Teacher Status, providing diverse pathways into the digital and technology sectors.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your tuition

• You don’t start repaying the loan until you earn over £27,295 per year (current threshold)

• If you progress to university and successfully complete your degree, your Advanced Learner Loan for this Access course is written off in full

• This means that you could study completely free depending on your progression
