Having a keen interest in the world of horticulture, Bryn studied as a Themis Apprentice to dive deep into his chosen subject. Wanting to learn from other professionals within the industry, he believed an apprenticeship is what suited him perfectly.

Having gained the relevant qualifications and practical experience, Bryn has developed his self-confidence and communication skills to be ready for the world of employment.

Bryn now works in many places including Burnley’s amazing parks, golf courses and the town centre, getting him one step closer to achieving his dream career of becoming self-employed and a #FutureBoss.

Tom Wilkinson

Permaculture Design and Ecology

Educated to degree level in Ecology with a specialism in Permaculture Design, Tom was the Community Gardener at Pennine Lancashire Community Farm, designing and creating four community gardens and training a volunteer workforce. He was also Horticulture Project Officer at The Good Life Project, improving mental and physical wellbeing.

THE EMPLOYER

Burnley Borough Council

Burnley Borough Council owns and manages five Green Flag parks in the borough, offering beautifully landscaped gardens and boating lakes, bowling greens, skate parks and playgrounds. The council also maintains over 500 hectares of informal open space and woodlands and owns several areas of land designated for allotment use in Burnley and Padiham.
