From September 2012, our tuition fees will be £6,000 per annum for new entrants on full-time programmes and £500 per module for part-time programmes*.
You won't need to pay any of this yourself upfront; tuition fee loans and non-repayable grants are available to the majority of students on university programmes, with affordable repayment plans when you graduate.

Tuition Fee Loans
You will not be expected to pay for your course yourself upfront. Loans are available following the submission of an application for Student Finance England to cover the cost of your tuition. You will not start repaying your loan until you earn an annual salary of over £21,000.

Student Maintenance Loans
A loan of up to £5,500 will be available to help with living costs such as food, accommodation and travel if you live away from home and study outside London. A loan of up to £7,675 will be available if you live away from home and study in London. A loan of up to £4,375 will be available if you live with your parents. |

Non-repayable grants
If your household income is up to £25,000 you will be entitled to a full, non-repayable grant of £3,250 to help with living costs such as food, accommodation and travel which you won’t have to pay back. If your household income is between £25,000 and £42,600 you would be entitled to between £50 and £3,250. |

Staff governor Maqsoodah is a lecturer in adult and university study provision for the Health and Social Development Division. She teaches on the BA Social Work course and the Foundation year of the Health and Social Care degree.
Maqsoodah entered the teaching profession after enjoying a successful career as a social work practitioner. After initially enrolling on the Certificate in Education at Burnley College, she is now in the second year of a PGCE which she is studying in conjunction with UCLAN.
Maqsoodah is also involved in delivering Equality and Diversity training to Blackburn with Darwen NHS Trust employees as well as Burnley College staff.
In her spare time, Maqsoodah enjoys socialising with friends and visiting new restaurants. |

Additional financial help may be available to you, which will be dependent upon your circumstances.
- Access to Learning Fund - for students who may need additional financial support to stay in university education. This is a non-repayable grant or a short-term loan, and is assessed on individual need directly by the University or College. - Adult Dependants’ Grant - students with a husband, wife, partner, or another adult family member who is financially dependent on them may be eligible for up to £2,642 a year. The grant is non-repayable, but how much you receive will depend on your income and circumstances.
- Child Tax Credit - students with dependent children may be eligible for Child Tax Credit from the Inland Revenue. How much you receive will depend on your income and circumstances. Applications can be made by calling the tax credit helpline on 0845 300 3900
- Childcare Grant - full-time students with dependent children in registered/approved childcare can apply for help with childcare costs. You can apply for a maximum 85% of childcare costs - up to £148.75 a week for one child, or £255 a week for two or more children. This is non-repayable.
- Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) - this is to help with any extra costs that you may have as a result of a disability. You must apply for the DSA before you commence your course
- Parents’ Learning Allowance - this is a non-repayable grant that is dependent upon household income. Students with dependent children may be eligible for up to £1,508 a year

To ensure you have enough money to live on during your studies, it is essential you budget carefully, and make the most of money saving offers and discounts that will be available to you as a full-time student.
- Obtain an NUS card - this will offer you discounts on a variety of things such as cinema tickets, CDs, clothes etc.
- Use student railcards or travel cards to receive reductions on the cost of travel. Discounted bus travel cards are available from Student Services or The Burnley ‘i’.
