Students get a sneak preview of Burnley College’s new campus

Student Ambassadors and Student Council members from Burnley College Sixth Form Centre have become the first students to tour the iconic new £81m campus.

14 students were guided around the state-of-the-art facilities by Assistant Principal Karen Buchanan and the Student Services team.

The new £81m Burnley College campus encompasses a Sixth Form Centre and a Skills and Adult Centre. For the first time it also brings a university into Burnley, with a Centre for the University of Central Lancashire being the key third element of the campus.

Students were shown high specification classrooms which have innovative new technologies built-in. They also saw examples of how students will develop their self directed study skills and prepare for university study in the 100 seater Lecture Theatre and Active Learning Zones which combine traditional learning materials such as books and journals with online learning resources.

The students then looked at the sports facilities which include a UEFA standard, full-sized outdoor 3G pitch, a Sports Centre which includes a sports hall with a full-sized pitch, a fitness suite and a climbing wall which meets the criteria for outward bound courses.

Assistant Principal Karen Buchanan said:

“We were keen for our Student Ambassadors and Student Council to be given the opportunity to see the state-of-the-art facilities at the new campus as soon as possible to thank them for the input they made throughout the building consultation process.

“These students will also play an important role in helping other students settle into the College in September and were all very enthusiastic about the fantastic learning environment they will now be studying in.”
