Q. What is a Tutorial?

A tutorial is timetabled in to your week and there will be half an hour group tutorial sessions, where yourself and your fellow tutees will spend time with your tutor. This could consist of a variety of things including planning for the future, study skills and topical sessions such as cyber-security, hate crime, health and wellbeing and many more. Tutorial in your second year will be very much geared towards university applications and support with other pathways such as degree apprenticeships and careers. Furthermore, you will have at the very least, one 1:1 tutorial session with your tutor every half-term (twice in the first HT). This will consist of individualised progress support and give you an opportunity to take a holistic look at how you’re doing on A-levels.

Computer Science

Q. Are there any jobs in the media industry?

Media is the fastest growing industry in the country and it’s crying out for young creative people. The media sector covers,  TV, film, photography, publishing, gaming, websites, digital marketing and social media. Just think about how many TV channels are there and all the staff are required to produce each other’s individual programs, never mind all the adverts that go between them.

Q. What skills will I learn on the course?

You will learn filming techniques, photography, graphic design, advertising, journalism, animation, game design, publishing and marketing, Photo editing with Photoshop and Lightroom, Video editing with Adobe Premiere and Davinci resolve.

Q. I didn’t study media at  School, can I still do the course?

Yes, we will train you and all skills you need to know for the course.

Q. What types of things will I be doing on the course?

During the course, you will create multiple short films, music videos, digital magazines & posters as well as video & photographic adverts.

If Media is a sector you wish to work in then a BTEC is the best course to be on. it is extremely practical and we’ll build up your skills to not only knowing the subject will also be able to do it in practice. these are the skills that you would then build on at university or in industry. During the BTEC course you would spend much more time I’m producing content and you would in an A Level Media class.

The BTEC Level 3 creative media course is equivalent to 3 A Levels. It also has a level 4 optional units in the second year that also helps with university applications.

Creative Arts

Q. I’m a vocalist and don’t play any instruments – is this course right for me?

It is preferred to have some instrumental skills alongside vocals as this will make you a far more adaptable performer and also broaden the range of performance opportunities throughout the course. You may wish to consider the A level music tech course – instrumental skills aren’t essential but preferred.

Q. I haven’t done GCSE music  or music at school – is this course right for me?

Yes. The nature of Vocational and A level music/tech is that they are far more rock/pop/modern as opposed to GCSE music. You just need the right level of instrumental skills (approx grade 4 or 5 level – you don’t need to have achieved your grades though) and an enthusiasm for the subject.

Q. I have not studied Art at GCSE?

You need to have an Art or Creative related subject at GCSE level to study on BTEC Level 3 Art / Fashion or A Level creative courses, at grade 5 or above

Q. What course can I do if  I have not studied Art at  GCSE?

We offer a Level 2 Art and Design Skills. You will need to be interviewed with a portfolio of work and meet the entry requirements for the course

Q. I have not studied Performing Arts or Dance at GCSE?

This is fine however, you need to have some experience in performing arts whether that be extra curricular clubs, dance school classes or youth theatre / musical theatre group experience.

Q. I have not studied Dance at GCSE?

You must have at least 3 years experience of dance in any style. Preferably if you do not study Ballet / Contemporary at this time we strongly advise you start attending at least one of these.
