About the course

The T Level in Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning is intended for students who want to

progress to a career in the construction sector, with a focus on design and surveying.

The purpose of the T Level Technical Qualification in Construction: Design, Surveying and

Planning is to ensure students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into highly

skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher level study, including university, within the

specialist area of design and surveying.

Whilst on the T Level pathway, learners will study a wide range of topics including:

● Health and safety

● Science

● Measurement

● Building technology

● Information and data

● Digital technology

● Construction mathematical techniques

● Design

● Construction and the built environment industry

● Sustainability

● Relationship management

● Commercial business

● Project management

● Law

Learners studying this T Level have a wide range of progression options including apprenticeships in:

L3 Construction , Level 4: Construction Site Engineering Technician, Construction Quantity Surveying

Technician, Construction Design and Build Technician, Building Services Engineering Technician.

Where students do not wish to progress to an apprenticeship and would prefer a more academic route, they could progress to relevant Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes or construction degree programmes

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs grades 5 to 9 or C to A*. and must include Maths and English

Assessment

Assessment is via two written examinations, two employer set practical assessments and the completion of a 315 hour industry placement.

Progression from study of this programme is to: Highly skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher level study, including university, within the specialist area of design and surveying.

Extra curricular activities

The division is focused on links with the community and community projects, offering the opportunity for work experience for full-time learners. The college offers a wide range of engaging events from Fresher's fair to regular atrium activities throughout the academic year. Construction site, trade shows and manufacturer visits form part of the extra curricular offer for the learner.
